Who thinks they have the worst/best dorm/dorm situation?

Since there's an influx of weird random questions on here, I'll ask this one. I always like to hear either stories about the coolest dorms, or on the flip side the worst dorms. Not just a story about roommates or whatever.

I'll kick off the worst dorm side countdown

Put in dorm called antisocial beforehand, suite-style with own bathrooms and a living room, people say people only hang with suitemates

Roommate barely here, so I don't even know him, but at least I basically have a single room

Meet barely anyone in building, not even our neighbors (literally) because they do not open doors

Live with RA, doesn't let us watch TV/play music over basically speaking volume

Top top it off, now there have been a rash of thefts over the past week because people leave stuff in living rooms and don't lock door, so people sneak in. As a result, the RAs are now telling people to not only lock your doors, but to close your blinds as well so people can;t see stuff inside to steal, so you literally don;t even know if people are in their rooms anymore

But at least we have our own bathroom! Let me hear some good stories now!

I think I have the best dorm! Single room, private bathroom with tub, air conditioning, wireless, desk, dresser, two bookcases, sofa bed, tv, dvd player, wii, and a large fridge with a freezer. It’s on the ground floor and next to the elevator, but I almost never hear any noise-- just the piano from the lounge sometimes during the day, which is actually pretty pleasant. The building itself is really cool, it’s pretty and have a computer lab, a library, a kitchen, three lounges, an exercise room, and a laundry room. It’s across the street from all my classes and favorite restaurants, there’s a grocery store a block away. And there’s a really cool theme program for us to participate in about social justice issues.

And no boys are allowed to live here. :P

I have a double room all to myself because my roommate transferred. And since we’re on trimesters we don’t get a lot of transfer students in for spring.

@Emaheevul07

What school do you attend? Sounds great!

I totally have the best =D

Studio apartment with bedroom, kitchen, living room. 5 closets including a HUGE walk-in and two clothes closets. Large bathroom including a tub. Heat (no AC, but we don’t really need it). Kitchen includes full gas oven/stove, microwave, dishwasher. Large back patio with sliding glass door for natural light. No roommates…I’m all by myself.

Did I mention I get to live here for free?

I love being an RA. =D

You’re cheating, that’s not a dorm! XD

I live in a moderate/large double with a small closet and the usual amenities. However, I really like my living arrangement for two reasons. First, I’m living with a really close friend who also happens to be the same major as me. We’re taking three classes together this semester, and another three next year, which is really great for studying. Second, our room is very close to the dining hall, and has a large window that overlooks the main walkway to the dining hall. This means that friends can easily stop by to say hello just be knocking on our window.

Although thinking about the room just reminded me that our heater is broken…probably should get that taken care of…

Emaheevul–it is too! We have apartment style dorms and the RAs get “studios”

So there! =p

I’ve never seen a dorm with interior windows. Interesting.

The apartment faces the street…all the dorms in my row have sliding glass back doors with patios. Actually, all of them in my village do. Just some of them open on different places.

None of our dorms open onto hallways…the front doors and back doors open outside. I don’t knwo if that makes any sense…it’s kinda hard to explain.

You can click[/url”>http://www.sonoma.edu/housing/gallery/villages/sauvignon/floorplan_s.html]click for a floorplan, which would probably make more sense. That’s the suite for the students…RAs have the same thing, just smaller and studio layout.

I have a pretty poorly designed room that’s small for three people. However, I absolutely LOVE it. Not only am I literally best friends with my two roommates (we were randomly matched, but we get along so well it’s scary), but I am really close with most of the other freshmen on our floor, and everyone’s doors are always open. The layout of our triple is that we have a small “common room” with our three desks, shelves, a few dressers and a gorgeous giant window with a cool ledge that you can sit on. There are two side rooms - one that is basically a closet but qualifies as a single since we squeezed a bed in there (I’m in it this term - we’re rotating by term since we’re on trimesters), and the other, which is slightly bigger and has bunk beds (where my roomies will be this term). We decorated it really well, and the situation works perfectly if one of us wants to go to bed but the others want to work at their desks. Even the sexile situation is perfectly fine, since there are two other rooms (this has been advantageous more than once. Hehe). Oh, and our dorm is attached to a dining hall, student center, postal center, and another dorm, so when it’s freezing in the winter (yay Minnesota), it’s slightly easier.

Sorry for the long-winded paragraph (slash basically love story about my room/roommates), I’m just really relieved that everything’s worked out. Our actual room is kind of poorly-designed - it’s pretty cramped for three people, only has one closet, is always hot, and occasionally makes weird banging noises. But I love our cozy little space. :)

you’re all quite lucky

I go to Emory…my freshman year dorm was a massive party dorm, and I had a tiny single but I loved it. Faced the street. Hall bathrooms and just a sink in there but it was cool. Was extremely social.

Sophomore year and I live on one of the upper floors of an 18 foot apartment-style dorm complex on the “upperclassmen” part of campus. Shuttles back and forth and our part of campus has a large field, multiple tennis courts, multiple pools, a gym…cafe-style eatery etc…

The dorm itself has an 18th floor filled with study rooms with large TVs, foosball tables and other cool stuff.

I live with 3 other people (love them all) and the layout is a large-ish kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave etc…very large living room with tables, a large nice chair, big couch…

Two rooms (two to a room) with two bathrooms. Large walk-in closet.

Decently social, but mostly just hang out with a few rooms worth of people I’ve been friends with for a long time. Easy to have parties.

Also we have a balcony with a decent view (other side has views of Atlanta) that is good for smoking and stuff.

Roommate and I get along great. Another random pairing going crazily right.
On the top floor of my skyscraper of a dorm: great view, slightly larger rooms (by ~3in).
Only half the occupants of a normal floor thus we’re all know each other, the bathrooms aren’t as disgusting, feel safe leaving doors open/stuff in the kitchen.
Unfortunately, other half of the floor is a public lounge. Filled with noisy intruders, using our kitchen stuff, eatin’ our food…it was really bad in the beginning of the year “Oh hey, let’s go check out the top floor, nobody lives there!” or “Let’s get drunk, throw around pizza crusts, and bang on the top floor lounge!”
But I guess all floors are noisy at times…ours is the only one with extra traffic and more susceptible to vandalism. However now people know we live there…and a few of us aren’t afraid to chew some folks out.
