Letter for Readmission Review?

Hi, I wasn’t sure what the appropriate thread for this post was as I am a current college student applying for readmission. I was placed on an academic suspension after my first year and was hoping to have my letter for readmission reviewed.

To the Advising Committee:

My name is XYZ and I am writing to apply for readmission to ABC University. During my first year at ABC, the adjustment to a new environment coupled with new physical and mental health challenges led to two semesters of academic probation, and subsequently, an academic suspension. I had stopped attending class lectures, turning in assignments, and studying for exams. I also refused to seek out the proper resources and assistance once my situation started to worsen.

During my year of academic suspension, I enrolled in three courses at DEF College: Introduction to Ethics, Differential Equations, and Physics with Calculus II. I received an A in my Introduction to Ethics and Differential Equations courses, a B in the Physics lab component, and a C in the Physics lecture component. While I did not earn a high enough grade to receive transfer credit, the Physics department at ABC has agreed to waive the Physics 2 degree requirement. While enrolled in courses, I also worked as a Technology Associate at Company 1 for an average of 30 hours per week and will be interning full-time over the summer at Company 2 as a Software Engineer. I have taken the time during the suspension to address the issues that hindered my success at ABC, continued the medication treatment plan I had developed with Counseling and Psychological Services, and worked to improve my coping and time-management skills.

I believe that I am now in a position to be successful at ABC. If readmitted, I will continue to use the services offered by CPS as a preventative measure. I will also register with Disability Services and meet with a learning specialist weekly on Fridays. If I have any difficulty with my coursework, I will attend office hours, set appointments with TAs, and utilize the available help rooms.

My time away from ABC has allowed me to prepare myself to be successful moving forward and I am confident that I will be able to satisfy the requirements necessary to remain in good academic standing and for graduation. Thank you for taking the time to review my request for readmission.

Sincerely,

XYZ

You seem to have the right elements in your letter. You know what went wrong, took steps to mitigate it, established a positive record in classes elsewhere to demonstrate you can handle the work, and you have a specific plan for continuing to be accountable going forward.

That said, the letter feels a bit long. Can you simplify your sentence structure so it reads easier and faster? Get to the point quicker, but without deleting any of the key elements. Consider using bullet points.

You’re on the right track.
