I sent in a letter reaffirming my interest in Brown following my deferral, and giving them an update, and recieved a letter back from Dean James Miller with his actual signature, not a printed one. Did anyone else get this response?

I mean, obviously, I’m reading far too much into this, and it essentially means nothing, but I’m on pins and needles waiting until March 29.

I mean, pretty hearfelt, its very sincere about my interest in Brown and shares some pretty meaningful new information. I don't really know. I sent it around February 5/6th probably, the letter from the Dean is dated February 13.

Dear -----,
Thank you for your recent letter reaffirming your interest in Brown. I appreciate your taking the time to give us additional information about your activites and accomplishments, and I will be sure to add them to your file.

As I noted in my December 14th leter to you, we will thoroughly review your application again in the next several months, and in the interim I hope you will feel free to provide us with any new information you feel will be helpful to us in our evaluation.

Thank you again for writing and best wishes for a successful and enjoyable close to your high school career.

Yours sincerely,
James S. Miller
Dean of Admission

Its obviously a generic enough letter. I'm just interested in seeing if everyone who got deferred and sent a letter in got this or something similar.

Wow awesome...I was deferred ED and sent a letter/updated information to Brown in early February as well, but haven't received any response. Maybe you're just awesome =). But yea, I've been wanting to call the office just to make sure they've gotten my stuff.

Where are you guys located? i just checked the envelope, and it was postmarked the 16th. Because Monday was a federal holiday and there was no mail, you could be getting them sometime soon? I'm on the east coast, just outside of washington, d.c.

Got the letter two weeks ago - I assume hundreds go out.
Consider it a polite, encouraging acknowledgment of having received the materials. Nothing more, nothing less.

I also received a letter from Mr. Miller today thanking me for continued interest in Brown. The letter also contained his actual signature (like you mentioned bethesda), which makes me wonder, just how many letters did he have to sign?! Anyway, how did the rest of you guys send in your letter? Cuz I mean I faxed mine out last Thursday and 'lo and behold, here's the confirmation piece sitting right in front of me.

They never really sign the papers. Admissions offices have machines that sign their sig. for them. I doubt a dean will spend hours signing hundreds of papers.

Pilots, I addressed my letter to the Dean. And while I would believe that the Dean has an automated signature, I've grown to love black ink so much so that his ink appears genuine. :D

Jenz, was your letter postmarked 2/16, like that of the OP?

heh, I think I'm hopelessly clinging on to any possibility or hint from Brown that could be an indication of whether or not I could make it. Argh, I'm so horribly nervous =P
