Wait-listed candidate got a letter from Dean of Adm. Does this mean anything?

I am a waitlisted candidate and I sent a log letter to the Board of Admissions regarding my continued interest in Brown. A few days letter, I received a letter from Dr. James Miller, Dean of Admissions, acknowledging my letter.
I just wish to know whether this is a standard procedure, i.e does everyone get a letter (I know it must be, just want to confirmation).

How long did it take after you sent your letter to get one back? I sent one out like two weeks ago and haven't gotten anything yet...

I sent my letter on the 11th April, and I got the one from Brown around the 25th (I live in India). However, the Brown letter was dated as the 12th. So considering it took two weeks for me to get one, you too might be getting one one of these days...
Where have you enrolled currently? I have sent my deposit at Brandeis.

did your letter remind you to enroll somewhere else? mine did...i think it was a gentle way of saying - hey we are not going to accept you, so don't count on it.

My son got one as well. It read like a standard letter that's sent out to all waitlist applicants acknowledging receipt of whatever you sent in to notify them.

i sent a letter in last year, got in off the waitlist, and did not ever receieve anything from Brown untill I got my acceptance packet.

Adrian: Yes, mine did ask me to enroll somewhere else? One's got to admit that its highly unlikely for one to get off the wait-list.

Cami215: I think mine was slightly different (at least I hope so). It specifically referred to the letter I had sent to the Board of Admissions.

iwannabe_Brown: You've ruined my day!

bs2,

We may be on the same page here. The message from Brown specifically referred to the letter son had written to the Dean of Admissions. Son had submitted a fairly lengthy statement of interest, promising to matriculate if admitted, etc. The Dean thanked him for writing and invited him to send in more information if that would be helpful.

Son mailed his letter on April 15; the return letter was dated April 21. My gut feeling is that this may be normal procedure.

also, the "enroll" somewhere else is just common sense. Before May 1st, even if you are a prime waitlist pick, the school doesn't know if they are going to take anyone from the waitlist. They want to remind you to put a deposit down, so that in the event they don't take you (or maybe anyone) you aren't left with no where to go.

I think this is standard procedure. I may have not gotten a letter because my guidance counselor was in communication with Brown, so they may have told him (and then he told me) i don't remember, it feels like so long ago.

yeah, i wrote a letter of continued interest and got a response from the dean as well. so he just sends it to everyone. all we can do right now is wait.

Why haven't I recieved a letter from the Dean? I wrote a letter or interest and sent it around April 19th and I haven't recieved anything

Don't worry. They aren't taking anyone from the waitlist this year.

Today, S received a letter, dated May 5, acknowledging his supplemental letter. It makes you wonder why Brown bothers this late in the process, particularly if they are not taking anyone from the waitlist.

Probably to solace us

Why don't you think that anyone will be accepted? If they haven't realeased that, I wouldn't assume. You never know...

People on CC have talked to members of their respective alumni committees and have received the info that no one is being taken.
Also, a few have called up the Brown admissions office to verify this.
