Letter of Continued Interest

Hey CCers!

On Feb 2, I got the news from Bowdoin College saying that I was deferred. It is now Feb 17 and I have just sent in my Letter of Continued Interest.

In my letter, I said that Bowdoin is still my first choice, why I want to attend Bowdoin, and I also listed a leadership position and some awards that I didn’t list in my initial application; I got this leadership position in tenth grade, and I got these awards in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. I also listed an additional award I got in January of this year.

I have two questions.

What do you think the admissions officers will think about the leadership position I held in tenth grade and the awards I got in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades but didn’t put in my initial app?

Do you think that I sent my Letter of Continued Interest in too late? If so, how do you think admissions officers will perceive this?

I had my guidance counselor email my admissions rep and ask if there was any reason that I got deferred. My guidance counselor said that my admissions rep said there was no reason that she can provide us with, and that I should wait. Also, my guidance counselor told me that I shouldn’t email a letter of Continued Interest because the admissions officers know that Bowdoin is my first choice.

Do you think I should have taken my counselor’s advice? Am I being annoying/too desperate?

Thanks for answering my questions in advance!

It’s always good to follow up in these situations, once! What you did won’t hurt, and it could help. IME, adding senior year achievements is good.
It shows you are still engaged. Sit tight and see how it goes in March.

Don’t agonize over things you have done already. Move on.

It’s good you sent the letter. With applications up 25%, a lot of excellent candidates got deferred. If you didn’t get rejected, you are qualified, but there is a lot that goes into making up a class.
