Stanford says they prefer LORs from 11th/12th grade teachers (as do most schools). If I'm submitting one from a 10th grade teacher (AP World History) who knows me very well since he's been my Academic Decathlon coach for 10th/11th/12th grade, would that be considered ok?

Also, since he's my Decathlon coach, it's likely he'll write it more regarding me in Decathlon than me in his class. Is this ok?

That should be fine…my K2 who is a freshman at Stanford had a great recommendation from 10th grade AP teacher…it didn’t seem to have mattered in K2’s admissions to ALL the top schools including those that start with the first element’s symbol of the periodic table…

^lol at the subtlety

I agree that it is fine. You should be more concerned about the content/quality of the letter.

Yes, that is fine. It said teachers from sophomore year but an advanced course (e.g. AP) are accepted recommrnders.

What if it was a Pre-AP class? My 10th grade English teacher has been my academic bowl coach since 10th grade (and we went on a school-sponsored Italy trip together last year) , and she wrote me a fantastic letter that I’m hesitant to include.

She’s seen my growth and knows me more than any other teacher, but it was a non-AP class in 10th grade, so I’m scared to assign her as a reccomender.
