I actually had a Cornell Alum who knows me very well (I intern for him 3 days a week) to write me an additional letter of rec for Cornell. The field he works in is related to the field I wish to study at Cornell. I know it's way too late now, but does it actually look bad to send in an extra letter of rec? I know they say to limit yourself to 2 letters, but I really think the alum was able to write about special skills of mine that teachers wouldn't know. However, I recently heard that it seems like a bad thing to send in extra letters. Does everyone agree with me -- that an extra letter of rec can only help and not hurt?

I don’t know what the official answer is, but I had a friend who sent in an additional rec from an alum and got in. But it was for the Hotel School, and was a more unique circumstance. I think in general extra recs are unnecessary, and just because its an alum doesn’t mean it will help. But in some cases, if they read it, and its an amazing rec, it might make a difference.

its a good idea. But send it in quick, before Thursday!

Haha, runjumpfly, it was sent 3 months ago.

Thanks, both of you for the answers.
