Letter of rec from a sophomore year teacher?

Hi guys! I’m applying to Ivies and T10s, and I was planning to get my rec letters from my junior year AP biology teacher and my sophomore year AP us history teacher. My sophomore teacher had written me a glowing recommendation for a scholarship in the past, and I think her rec would really benefit my application.

However, I’ve been told it looks bad to have a recommendation letter from a sophomore year teacher. I could ask for one from my junior year AP English teacher instead, but I struggled to build a relationship with her due to COVID/virtual school, and I’m not sure how well she can speak to my personality.

TLDR: should I go with a stronger rec from a sophomore year teacher or a more average rec from a junior year teacher? My other rec would be from a junior year teacher either way.

Thank you in advance for any help!

With covid and so much distance learning, I think it’s just most important to get letters from people who know you and the caliber of work you do. For many people, there was some to considerable remote/virtual learning last year and I think adcoms realize that. Your counselor could even mention that if it was the case for you & your school.

I agree that considering the circumstances of the past year and a half, that your sophomore APush teacher’s rec will not be an issue, nor a disadvantage for you in the admission process.

Good luck.

One sophomore year teacher LOR is fine.
