Letter of Rec missing?

It seems that one of my teachers didn't submit their letter of recommendation to Family Connection like they were supposed to, so my counselor wasn't able to submit it. If this isn't worked out and the letter doesn't get in, even if all my other materials and application were on-time, would this disqualify me? If he doesn't get back to me, the earliest I can get it in is the 3rd, and the deadline is the 1st for most of my colleges. (Winter break, why have you betrayed me?) My counselor said they would be fine, but I'm really nervous right now...only one of my five apps only required one letter...

Thanks!

“would this disqualify me?”

Schools spend tens of thousands of dollars and man-hours to get people like you to apply. Now they toss your file in the shredder or bonfire because of this logistical hiccup. Does this make sense? Think about it.

Stop worrying. If they get to evaluation deadlines and items are missing, they will contact the school or you. Relax.

T26E4 is right. And to add ‘real world’ experience here, S had a letter of rec that failed to show up (although the teacher says it was sent well before the deadline). The school notified S by email that a letter was missing. S called school to confirm that it was sent and to get a fax number. He then contacted the teacher who faxed a copy to the school the next day. S then called school which confirmed receipt. He was admitted. I’m sure this scenario happens at every school every year for lots of kids.

Think about what the typical admissions dept back office looks like on Jan 2 - there are probably barrels and barrels of letters just waiting to be opened, sorted, date stamped, and filed. It could take several weeks.

One of my recs for UChicago EA wasn’t uploaded until November 17 because my teacher misunderstood the process. My transcript, secondary school report, and counselor rec got lost in the mail and weren’t received until early December. I was accepted to Chicago on December 17.

This kind of stuff happens all the time. Besides, admissions offices don’t get all their paperwork straightened out until the end of January.

My counselor said they weren’t submitting anything until my apps were in and I sent mine in this week. I requested they go in before break but she said no. So I guess that things do come in afterwards. After all they’re still waiting on senior grades as well.
