Okay, so for my 2 letters i would like to get 2 of my history teachers to write my recommendations and an additional letter from the head of my school.

Teacher 1- taught me for 4 years and involved in 2 ecs that i participate in
Teacher 2- taught me for 2 years and very actively involved in 3 of my ecs
Head of School- known me since Preschool and has worked with me in ECs

I'm worried that getting letters from two teachers from the same subject will hurt me! One of my science teachers has known me since middle school and taught me for two years but she is also my college counselor (small school..weird, i know) so she is writing the counselor letter. Will my letters be strange if they're from teachers from the same subject area?

Also, my strength is history and on my app i've indicated that it is one of the areas i'm considering majoring in. My grades and test scores reflect my love for and success in my history classes.

It’s always good to show diversity, but i don’t think having recs from the same subjects will negatively affect, but it won’t necessarily positively affect you, if that makes sense :)

While it’s always good to show diversity in your application, it doesn’t really make a difference if they’re from the same subject area. Admissions officials are much more interested in how well the teachers know you and what their letters say than they are in the teachers themselves. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

If you visit any college info session in America, they will tell you that you need two teacher recommendations from teachers in two separate academic disciplines. It will hurt you. I’m not sure how much, but definitely don’t do this if you have the ability to get another decent rec.

The colleges I’ve been in contact with will, ostensibly, throw out one of the two if they’re both from the same field. I don’t know if it’s really that dramatic, but they make a point of telling all of the prospies, so I wouldn’t go against it.

^ agree. Best idea is to check the college’s own web info to see how they word it. The first question an adcom can have, if you have two from the same subject is WHY? After that, they may make an assumption you weren’t confident teachers in other subjects would write well on your behalf. Contrary to the earlier poster’s comments, adcoms are very interested in the perspective two teachers from different subjects will offer. And, your GC will confirm this.
