I might be able to get a rec from a Dean at Brown University (not admissions but one of the divisions) approximately how much will that increase by chances of getting in?

What's important is not who is writing the letter, but what they are writing in it.

A lot! If only I were in your position; I would dance naked in the middle of Antarctica for that letter of rec.

You are getting recommended by a DEAN! These people can basically override an admissions offer if they wanted to I bet.

Just make sure you don't get too comfortable, letters are a strong part of your admissions, but make sure you can back it up with your grades, scores, and some EC. The Letter will definitely improve your chances by a significant amount, but keep in mind Brown is an IVY and they are always difficult to get into.

I agree with DFSMin completely. The letter isn't gonna be a "holy grail" sort of thing, but it'll definitely help.
