My application to the University of Florida was rejected and I am currently in the appeal process.
My next door neighbor is a dean at a local university and is willing to write me a letter of rec, along with a rec letter from my school principle.

Along with my new and "compelling" information, and well-written essay, maybe even a profolio of some of my works (I am going to major in English)

Do you think this is strong enough to make them re-think their decision?

**I tried to edit recommendation and ended up pressing enter by accident, sorry for the typo

Sure, it may. There wouldn’t be an appeals process if the outcome was already determined. But who really knows. It would mostly depend on their yield rate from those who have either accepted or decided to pass over admissions.

That being said, don’t get your hopes up. Unless they (or you) and show something that wasn’t demonstrated in your initial application package (other than that “he’s so smart/he saves kittens at the animal shelter/he worked part-time while in high school”) then they aren’t really getting much new information, correct? And if the answer if yes, there is something new, then the question becomes why didn’t you share this great gem about your life and abilities initially with the admissions office at UF?

One thought would be to go to another school and after your first year there (NOT just one semester) to transfer to UF. I hear they take a lot of transfer students, and a 3.5 or 3.7 would make you a very, very strong candidate for transfer admissions.
