My D just found out that her teacher did not send in his letter of recommendation and several of her school's app deadlines have passed. Will most schools be understanding of late letter - everything else got in on time.
Schools that she's worried about are: Stanford, Pitzer, Pomona and Bard. Any help would be appreciated - she's freaking out!

They will quite likely be understanding. They know problems occur and are usually accomodating. If I were her, I would call the admissions office and explain that there was a mix-up and her letters of recommendation are late. Be SURE not to make the teacher out as the problem when you call, even if he is. It just makes you seem as though you're blaming others for your problems (even if he is the cause).

Generally rec letters can arrive after the app deadline unless the school expressly says otherwise. Get it in by mid-Jan and you should be fine.
