Letter of Recommendation

I know 3 people who could write an excellent letter of recommendation for me. They are adults (ages 24, 41, 43) and I believe that, over the course of the past couple of years, I have had the privilege of getting to know them on a more personal level.

HERE IS THE CATCH - my relationship with these 3 people is indirect... our contact is solely online, through various mediums. Does this indirect type of relationship "disqualify" the possibility of me acquiring a letter of recommendation from them?

Whether or not you can get a LoR from them is irrelevant. The real question is whether or not they are totally useless.

I say they are WORSE than useless. You get 2 chances to get supportive LoRs from instructors and one additional “supplemental” usually from a boss, coach, mentor and knows your work, ethic or ability to influence others. Instead, you throw that chance away and get pseudo-friends to vouch for your “character”

Regardless of what you think a LoR is supposed to be, read this: <a href=“How to write good letters of recommendation | MIT Admissions”>http://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/writingrecs

THIS is what colleges are looking for…

That is MORE than a little harsh… but point taken. I’ll be sure to not waste my chances on my pseudo-friends. It’s a shame too, I know they could answer 8 out of 9 of those questions in that link you’ve provided. Thanks for the answer.

Oh. Plz accept my apologies. I wanted to drive home the point about what colleges look for. I see my choice of words wasnt good. I’m very sorry. Best of luck to you

If they haven’t taught you in the classroom, don’t get a letter from them.

Colleges value your LOR from your teachers the MOST. Other materials are just supplementary. In your case, I don’t know how they would significantly boost your application. Are they coaches? advisors? employers? If none of the above, then they aren’t worth that much, because otherwise people could just get LOR from family members or relatives to get them into colleges
