Letter of Recommendations

I am currently an undergraduate student and I am applying to graduate school.

I have been working for my aunt for 4 years and I was wondering if she could write my letter of recommendation?

How does letter of recommendations work, as I keep seeing online that family and friends should not be allowed to. But in the case they are your boss, can they write one for you?

You don’t have a professor who could write one? That would be a better option. Failing that, I guess your aunt can write it, but she would have to be very professional about it. And if it explicitly states that it can’t be a family member, then be careful, because you risk jeopardizing your app.

If your aunt must write one (and I agree that it’s probably best that she not), it should focus entirely on your professional relationship.

Agree with the above, a LOR would be better coming from a non-related party such as a professor.

I know at certain graduate school info sessions they say that letters from relatives do not usually work out for applicants. I’d try harder finding someone outside your family who knows you well.
