letter to admissions office

is it possible, along with my application, to send a letter to the admissions office explaining a part of my transcript and reasons for it being, for lack of a better word, bad? would that help when the admissions committee evaluates my application?

Put it in the additional information section of the application.

Additional materials are ok in the additional information section - or just attach a letter to the app.

jhuscla - you have gotten good advice already. You may put any additional information you want to explain in the "additional info" section of your application, or by submitting a letter to the Admissions committee with your application. Your choice.

Would it help? It all depends on what you say. Many students submit "letters of explanation" and the admissions counselors do read them and will assess the application with that information in mind.

Best of luck.
