My D, a junior, has been told by friends that they've already asked teachers for letters of rec. When is this usually done, does it make a difference if it comes from a teacher or guidance counselor, and how many are usually sent in. I was thinking she'd ask her gc and the head of our chapter of Habitat for Humanity, where she volunteers on a regular basis. Is that smart? Or is a teacher better?

Since a few schools she's looking at have rolling admissions, I'm thinking maybe it does make sense to get this going, but do they send them directly to the school or give them to the student?

thanks for the advice and any suggestions you'd like to share!
