letters of rec.. SO CONFUSED

Where/how do i fill these in? On the website of one of my colleges it says I need a counselor evaluation (?) and a teacher rec, but i can't find where this section is on the common app.

I'm thinking of asking for a rec from a teacher who had me in 10th grade english, and newspaper for 11th& 12th grade. Thoughts on this?

HELP

Go talk to your teacher and counsellor with a list of the schools you are applying. If I recall, the recs. are sent off by the writer to the schools. They then go in your app. file for that school. The student generally does not read the teacher recs. The English teacher sounds like a good b/c he/she know you inside and outside the classroom. Also the teachers are quite familiar with this process, should be able to offer you some guidance. I would ask the teacher very soon though, sometimes they get too many requests and need to start turning students down.

The first rule of LORs is to ask teachers who will give you the best evaluations. That said, jr year teachers are usually preferred because they have taught you in higher level coursework for the full year. There are definitely exceptions, my Ds both had a soph year teacher write their LORs, but that was for an AP course. Was newspaper a class or a club/EC? LORs need to come from teachers (not coaches, club advisors, etc.). You might also consider getting LORs from teachers in a different discipline (eg. math/science/history/FL); but again, the most important thing is to get the best LOR possible.

In the CA, you will “invite” your teachers and GC to submit their evaluations electronically by filling in their name, email, etc. If you don’t see that on the CA when you log in or in the instructions section, look for the answer on the CA subforum here on CC (sorry, I would tell you where it is, but I don’t have a CA account this year).
