Need some advice- LOR

I am deciding on whether or not to ask my english teacher for a college rec. She was my english teacher freshman year and currently my ap lang teacher (11th grade). She is also familiar with me from sponsoring Model UN. I am a good but not stellar writer. More of a STEM/econ type guy. My grades are very good but of the 30 kids in my ap class, I am probably top 5-8. she has known me longer than my teachers in my top subjects. She has also written good recs for me in the past for summer programs etc...Should I still ask her for my college rec? I have other teachers I am comfortable asking but she has known me the longest. I'm slightly concerned about the importance of the 1%, 5%, 10% check boxes on the common app. What do you guys think?

Use this teacher since she knows you inside & outside the classroom. This gives her the opportunity to talk about you IB different leadership situations. She can also discuss your personal growth & maturity since 9th grade. Make sure you are contributing to your classroom discussions & not sitting in class never speaking. Then she can talk about what you contribute to class. If you’d like her to bring up all these things in your LOR, you need to ask her to make sure its all in there.

Goodness, who would you ask, if not her? Many of the teachers don’t fill in those boxes. They just give a blanket written rec and attach it or sent it via the internet to the college or common app. Ask her how she fills out those recs, if you want to know. ALso ask her if there is a sheet of questions or a profile she would want from you for recs.

Most teachers do I’ll n the boxes. For schools that allow you to have both be math/science teachers, I’d use them if you’re a top student in their class. For schools that want a humanities teacher, I’d use her.

For most schools top 5% is fine. Only if you’re shooting for ivies and peers is it even an issue.
