I'm interested in applying to Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, NYU, and Cornell and I was just wondering if I could get my 2 letters of rec from 2 science teachers. If not, can I get 1 science and 1 math? Or does it have to be 1 science/math and 1 english/history/foreign language.

any two core teachers will be just fine. choose the ones that will give you the strongest recommendations.

It will depend on the particular schools. Some want two recs from people who know you well, some from two academic teachers, and some from two different subject areas. Look it up.

glasses is right - schools do vary on who they want recs from

I cant seem to find it… can someone help me please? I want to know for Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, and Cornell.

Just for the heck of it, i checked out Cornell. You are right, it doesnt seem to be listed.

When my son applied 3 years ago, before the recommendations went online, most of his schools were pretty clear - they wanted one from a math/science and one from a humanities. Somehow in going to the CA online recs, they have made them more generic.

I would send emails to the adcoms from all your schools and just ask them. I would also be prepared to find a humanities rec.
