I hadn’t noticed it before, but some of the colleges in applying to require a letter of reccomendation from your guidance counselor. The problem with that is my guidance counselor left for a new job over the summer. I have only known my new counselor for 1 month, so she wouldn’t be able to write a very good letter of reccomendation. Is there an alternate option or should I just have the new counselor write one for me.
Your new GC does it. The GCs often barely know you. It should make a difference as long as your teacher recs are strong.
It is not unusual that GCs don’t know students that well due to job movement, having too many students etc. so an impersonal LOR from a guidance counselor won’t hurt you. The letter has to be from your current guidance counselor and cannot be replaced by someone who no longer works at your school. As noted above having good teacher LORs will be very helpful to you.
That said, if you haven’t done so yet, I’d arrange to meet with the guidance counselor – you can discuss your college application process and ask if there is anything you can provide that might help him/her write your college LOR such as a resume (if you have one), a list of activities etc.
