I’m a junior this year and I wanted to ask my teachers for recommendations before the school year ends so I can get them over the summer or right at the beginning of the year. The problem is, I’m kind of introverted, so I feel like only a couple teachers know me well enough to write me good letters. These teachers also don’t teach my intended major: biochemistry. I took both AP Chemistry and AP Bio, but I took them as an underclassman and I was intimidated to talk a lot or ask for help in a class full of upperclassmen, so I didn’t really get to know the teacher that well. In fact, I’m fairly certain those teachers wouldn’t even recognize me if I did go back. I think I could get a good one from my Medical Interventions teacher, my AP Economics teacher, and my Honors Precalc teacher, but only one of those is really close to my major. Does it even matter to colleges? Any advice would be great!
Your recs don’t have to necessary relate to your intended major. For the school I’m going to in the Fall, my recs were from my English teacher and Physics teacher. Doesn’t have much to do with my intended majors (Political Science & African-American Studies). I would go with whoever will write the strongest recs for you. What colleges are you interested in? Some colleges have requirements/strong recommendations for the teachers you should get recs from (ie. two core academic classes, one math/science and one other, etc.)
I’m going to school for Biology and my rec letter was from my speech and debate coach. It doesn’t matter
