Letters of recommendation specifics

<p>I realize that I asked this question in the thread above concerning letters of recommendation, but no one has answered yet and I really need to know, so: If I am applying to 11 schools, should I still only ask two teachers to write me letters of recommendation (for 8 of the 11 schools) and have them photocopy the letters. Basically, do the letters need to be school specific and is it asking to much to have them print out 8 copies. Also, I know that now these letters can be filled out online. Would it be better to do what the above thread suggested and bring in folder with 8 addressed and stamped envelopes, or to just send them the commonapp invite they use to fill out online? I don't want to waste 16 stamps if they aren't going to use them. Thanks in advance!</p>

<p>I assume you already talked to these teachers and they agreed to recommend you? That’s the first step. If they tell you during that conversation that they want to submit paper recs, you have to go through the whole envelope and stamp thing and print out all the forms. (but you should still put their names into the correct places in your common app account). If they are willing to submit online and if all your schools are common app schools, and if you don’t use naviance, then the process is really easy. You just log on to your common app account, add all your schools, go to the school forms section, waive your rights, and then enter your teachers’ names and email addresses. Then go into each school and add your teachers as your recommenders. Hit the scary submit button. This does not submit your whole application and you can still work on all the rest. They will right away get an email from the common app inviting them to recommend you. They’ll each do a single recommendation that will be the same for every school you select on the common app-- they don’t customize for each school on the common app site. You will be able to check their progress through your common app account.</p>
