Would it be better to have a letter from a teacher in the field you want to go into, or a teacher who knows your personality better/is better friends with you but doesnt teach a subject relevant to your major?
the teacher who can best discuss your quality of classroom work and engagement – the better “friend” or teacher in your field – either one. Your prospective major means little – since most students alter their major choice.
First of all many colleges ask for 2 recommendations so you could have both write one. But if I had to choose one, I’d definitely go with the teacher who knows you better.
im asking this because i asked three of my teachers (two humanities one math) for letters. im going to major in a science, but i initially only asked my two humanities teachers because im better friends with them (i had to ask my math teacher too in the end when i saw that a school im applying to requires a math/science teacher).
now im wondering if i should send my math teachers recommendation to all of my colleges along with only one of the humanities teachers recommendations, or if its ok if i send both the humanities teachers letters to the colleges that dont require the science letter even though im majoring in a science. would it look bad to not send my math teachers letter to some schools??
Ask your guidance counselor after she sees the letters.
I already asked my guidance counselor about this, and she didnt give me a very helpful answer. Do you think its ok to send two humanities letters even though im majoring in bio??
