Say my major is physics. If I take 7A, a lower div requirement, can that count for both my major and satisfying the "physical science" portion of the L&S breadth requirement?

Absolutely you can. One can’t use the same class to count for more than one of the seven breadth categories - although some courses are qualified to go against more than one. However, you can ‘double dip’ as far as major requirements and breadths, pre-med sequence and breadths, also the American Cultures requirement can be satisfied by wisely picking one of the courses that is BOTH AC and a breadth simultaneously.

Every college is different - a course may be a breadth for L&S but not for the college of engineering, or vice versa - as well as their rules for double dipping. You asked about L&S, my answer was tailored to L&S

I know for Haas there is no double dipping. Could be different for you guys though.
