I’m writing a letter to admissions stating that Brown is still my first choice and that I will definitely go if admitted. What else would people suggest for including in my letter? Also I have written an essay that I feel is MUCH better than my original essay and says a lot more about me. It has been included in my other applications and I was wondering if it might be a good/bad/neutral idea to include it with my letter to admissions.

Your letter is fine, but don’t include the revised essay. It makes you sound wishy-washy. What else to say: add anything extra that has happened since you submitted your application, like new awards.

You could sign the letter or something to show your commitment, they might find it bold and it couldn’t really hurt (if you’re serious about definitely going).

I was also deferred and I am planning to write a letter… Who are you writing yours to? The admissions office in general, or were you able to find out who your admissions officer is?

I’m opening mine with a basic To the Admission’s Staff:
(Just because even though their is assigned admissions people for different regions I want to be safe and make sure that my letter applies to whoever may read it)

Send your letter to the admissions officer responsible for your state/area. For most schools you can find that on the website with a little digging, otherwise, call the admissions office and ask the receptionist who the person is and how to spell their name. Or ask your guidance counselor who visitied your school this fall…that was probably your area admission officer. For most schools, your area officer is your best advocate, they are the ones responsible for evaluating and presenting you. Don’t send a generic letter.
