in!! congrats everyone
@studentfromnj I went and did the compass scholar fly-out program for LC, and let me tell you, if youre looking to do environmental science, definitely LC, a lot of the ES classes are held outside, because I was planning on majoring in ES. Congrats! UP is also right in the middle of downtown, I am not sure if you’d like that or not?
I agree with you about Lewis and Clark having a good environmental science program, but the University of Portland has a nice, quiet, secluded campus on the river. It is by no means in the middle of the city. It is possible that you meant to say Portland State, which is downtown.
@studentfromnj & @maritomountains I am a recent alum from LC w friends who went to UP. LC definitely has a stronger environmental science program, and the campus really prides itself on being environmentally conscious. The social culture is definitely pretty different between the two, and LC is a bit more academically prestigious / has more name recognition, although only by a bit. UP is Catholic, and while not everyone there is catholic, it is definitely a part of campus culture. Let me know if you have more questions, I am happy to answer them! Congrats!
i got into lewis and clark early action!

Has anyone received the Barbara Hirschi Neely scholarship? I was just wondering if those had already been announced…
@ArizonaParent , I was wondering that as well!
@ArizonaParent my daughter heard via email on 3/18 that she had not received the Neely.
My daughter got her admission via portal last night. 24K scholarship but overall the aid package left a bigger gap than any of her other options, so not really in the running, which is too bad. Glad we have others that are meeting our need or coming close.
@ArizonaParent I was admitted as a Neely Scholar in March. SAT: 1540, SAT II Chemistry: 800, SAT II Math: 780, 4.5 GPA
I was very shocked but pleasantly surprised! Everyone here is equally qualified for the scholarship; I just got lucky
@Jackbrains Could you please comment a few of your stats, EC’s? I’m currently a junior in HS who’s top decision is Lewis and Clark, and I would like to see my possibility of being a Neely Scholar. Thank you!
@Neooooooo Sure! But take this with a grain of salt; the college admissions process is bizarre. Also, I heard from the Neely Scholars chairperson that they may be doing a Finalist Weekend for next year, so keep an eye out for that!
SAT: 1530, 1540 (super-scored)
SAT Subjects: 800 (Chemistry), 780 (Math 2), 710 (Physics), 700 (Spanish)
AP (after junior year): all 5’s (English Lang, Spanish Lang, European Hist, Chemistry)
GPA: 4.50
Class Rank: 1 of ~530 (yes, valedictorian, but there were 21 valedictorians so…)
Now for extracurriculars…
Classical piano, piano tutoring, math/chem tutoring, Founder of LGBT club (did a mental health workshop, group support, etc), community leadership organization (made a book interviewing our town’s most interesting people), varsity tennis, chess club (prez and one year district champion), yearbook (business manager), NHS president, science bowl (2nd place regionals), we the people (constitution and citizenship debate, basically), Spanish Honor Society (VP), other honor societies (bleh)
Piano awards, We the People awards, PSAT/NMSQT Commended Scholar, leadership and LGBT awards
Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps. And don’t sweat it! I’m sure you’re super smart and capable, so I hope you get the Neely, but even if you don’t, you’re still just as amazing!!! L&C will def give you some merit, if anything. Love yourself and don’t give a crap what a college says!
