Receiving dozens of emails from Fordham with an ACT of 24 claiming I'm a "Choice Applicant".
Does the fact I'm a senior and my school funnels to Fordham enhance my chances of acceptance?

It seems as if they send those emails and flyers to everyone they can find. Nothing against your personal case, but they are probably oblivious.

Fordham does have “feeder schools”. But the days of “automatic entry” from those schools are over. Fordham is a national university and is recruiting students nationwide. They will still take a large number of qualified students from their historic feeder schools, which are well known Catholic High Schools in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. But you should be aware that admission standards at Fordham have risen dramatically in the past five years.

They do send out a lot of emails and mailings to students.

I don’t know what they will do with a 24 ACT and it also depends on your class rank, gpa, recommendations and high school courseload/transcript, as well as EC’s.

3.2 gpa, varsity baseball, I know I’m borderline but, I’ve gotten an email at least weekly for 4 or 5 months.Had a visit Presidents weekend few weeks ago and going to baseball workout camp 11/13.
Guess you’d call it my “reach school” over Seton Hall & Brockport who have contacted me about baseball.

Athletics makes a huge difference. If you play for Fordham, which has a LONG and STORIED baseball history, that is commendable.

I wish you the best of luck, my friend. Just trying to be realistic on the academics.

I have no doubt you can succeed at Fordham. The issue is the bottleneck at admissions with 27,000 applications and whom do they let in and whom do they have to disappoint?

Your baseball hook will help you. Any other hooks? Minority status? Legacy? Its a great school, as you know. Good luck.

No, no other hooks and baseball isn’t a sure thing at Fordham. It’s pretty competitive, too. We’ll see, I’m not applying until I retake the SAT on 12/4.

I am currently a Sophomore and in RHS at Fordham. There is no such thing as feeder schools. If you meet the average criteria for acceptance, spend time on your essays, and partake in extracurricular activities that will give you the best chance to get in.

Iamafordham ram: You have been drinking too much koolaid. That is simply not true. There are SEVERAL feeder schools including one very prominent one on Long Island. Fr. McShane has stated openly at several functions that Fordham has a long distinguished history of recruiting from prominent tri-state catholic schools and he intends on continuing that tradition, despite the fact that Fordham is reaching out to other regions for new students. Its nothing new, as many schools have these traditions and it was very true with Jesuit colleges. If you take the class on the History of Jesuits or History of New York Catholics you may read some of that tradition.

There is nothing wrong with it, so long as special accomodations are not made for those schools while higher standards are expected from other students, or scholarships are not unfairly distributed to kids from these schools while kids with the same or higher scores from other schools are overlooked. A rising tide should raise all boats, not just some. My point was that the days when some kids from some of these feeder schools could simply sign the application and they were “in” are long over. (I heard that comment from a RHS member and upperclassmen btw.)

So sorry, I don’t agree with your opinion.
