You have great stats.....though I think that merit scholarships generally have a cutoff of 1400 Math/CR on the SAT. Your writing score is excellent and that will do you very well at Fordham since its an academic school where writing papers is a frequent exercise.....and you will be very challenged there. They dont give out A's at Fordham for anything but extraordinary scholarship. Trust me on that.

But it looks good from here, if you ask me. Fordham is a special place that is getting a lot of spotlights on it recently. There are some very, very smart kids being admitted and who are attending Fordham as I speak. It would shock you how smart many of these kids are. I know of several kids with unbelievable stats who are attending Fordham right now...and thriving.

I hope you get in and that you attend. Character counts.

Agreed, fordhamgrad. However, not all schools offer as many AP classes as others. My kid went to a public high school that offered a plethora of AP courses. In fact, the AP courses were taught by separate faculty at a separate campus in town and were truly college level courses. These kids routinely get 4's and 5's on all the national AP exams. My kid took 8+ AP classes and thrived. But we also know that some private schools dont have those resources and often only offer a few AP classes and lots of Honors Level classes. So I dont know what MRocked had available him/her. But I do think his/her SAT scores are very good and that writing score is excellent and that will serve them very well at Fordham if they come.

I am in the only AP math that exists at our school (same period as AP biology, so I couldn't take that)
I was going to take AP physics but it was the same time as the only Spanish class (and Spanish isn't offered AP)
I guess I could have taken AP Politics or AP European History, but social studies are my worst subject

but i hope this doesn't hurt me too much

anyway, on a side note, yeah I know my writing score is great, and I took the SATS another time to try and increase my math and reading, and guess what?
I only went up in writing... to a 780 lol

Good for you! Most colleges know what is going on at your school with respect to course offerings.....but you can always send an additional comment about the limited availability of AP courses at your high school, though I dont think it will matter in your case with your scores. It might matter more for someone on the bubble ....near the lower edge of scores for typically admitted students.

I think you will be fine. Its a great school. Make a visit and see for yourself. But in particular make sure to visit during the admitted students orientation in April 08 before the deadline to notify them of your decision, if you are indeed admitted. That is a great weekend. Students everywhere to help you and answer questions...every club imaginable represented..and faculty, administrators are there as well. And then comes Fr. McShane, Fordham's very energetic and ambitious president. He is just a hoot and really knows how to close a deal. I mean, after hearing his speech, not only did WE NOD OUR HEADS UP AND DOWN IN AGREEMENT AND SAY, "this is where we are going!", but I saw lots of other heads doing the same thing. He knows kids by name. He is all over campus all of the time. He even went to the Presidential Dance this year, greeting kids...some of them by NAME! Including MY KID! What a guy!

Start getting REALLY excited and we hope to see you there!

I'd say that you have a solid chance of being admitted and I also think that you have a good shot at scholarship money. I've seen people with your stats receive a $10,000 deans scholarship (and up); I worked for financial aid and worked with thousands of different files.
Nothing is definite (as you probably know) since there have been many in your situation that have been waitlisted/rejected. The whole thing about 1400 being a cutoff for scholarships really is false. There are many, many people below that mark that receive quite large scholarships. It really depends on how much Fordham wants you.

1400 is the figure that Fordham told me. I asked directly and got a direct answer. But I also know its a general figure and that other factors come into play, such as their view of whether you will likely accept or not, and sometimes who you know, or Fordham's experience with kids from your school in the past, if you are from a minority background or disadvantaged.

But I think its beyond misrepresenting to someone that they get their hopes up for a scholarship if they are in the low 1300's. I certainly dont speak for them and surprises can happen, but its much better to be frank about it and up front.

You seem sort of bitter, rain. Just my two cents.
