Liberal Arts Chances?

White, Male, Middle Class. Religious Minority. Here comes the hook - Ohio. Woooooh bellweather states.

Standardized Tests:
ACT: 33 Composite, 32 English, 29 Math, 36 Science, 36 Reading, 30/10 Writing.
SAT: 2100 Composite, 740 Reading, 690 Math, 670 Writing
SAT IIs: Math II -740, Chem - 780, US - 800
AP: 5 Euro, 4 Chem

Prospective Major:
Economics/Environmental Science

School:
Type: Public
3/350.
Weighted GPA: 4.1 (The current Valedictorian has a 4.15)
Unweighted GPA: 4.0

Senior Year Load (oh and it is.):
AP Physics B, AP US, AP English Lit, Heath, French IV, AP Calc
I'm taking essentially the hardest courses I can.

Essays:
Common App Essay was about food. Very creative, fun, and hopefully memorable.
Supplement essays were much more standard, academic, and serious.

Recs:
AP Chem teacher - Awesome, he showed it to me and I've never seen anything more amazing
Social Studies II/III - Should be excellent, she said she focused on one particular personality trait she liked about me
Counselor - Should be good, she likes me a lot.

Extracurriculars:
Young Democrats 9-12, President. (I actually wrote my short essay about this and how we never did anything specifically relating to the political party.)
International Thespian Society, 10-12, Officer
Regional Religious Youth Office, 10-12, Chair
Bell Choir, 10-12
Student Council, 9, Class President
A Capella Choir, 12,
National Honor Society, 11-12, Vice President
I'm pretty weak on EC's freshman year because I was in an afterschool class three days a week; which is on my transcript. I'm not worried about it.

Chances for:
Pomona College (Alum Interviewed)
Carleton College (Alum Interviewed)
Oberlin College (Didn't interview and am in state, visited Campus though. : D)
Grinnell College

and also
Stanford University (Depends on how the ouijaboard is feeling that day.)
USC
Berkeley

I would be much obliged for your input!
Thanks!

Ok so, ur lack of a rigorous course load and APs will hurt u…
Ur GPA is below standard for weighted GPA…
Ur SATS/ACT’s are jus average…
USC - match Berekley - high match/low reach cuz ur OOS
Stanford - definitely a reach
Pomona - a reach,( consider applying ED)
Oberlin Grinnnell Carelton - High MAtches

Ur only major problem is lack of hard classes, colleges prolly will think ur not willing to challenge urself. Average applicants at top univerties have 6 APs + and a crazy courseload. - although ur taking hard classes senior year, guess that kind of makes up for it, sitll would have been nice to get that weighted GPA up,

I suppose its worth mentioning that my school limits the number of AP classes we take over our high school career to 6. Its really stupid, but a feature of the common app, so atleast they’ll be aware.

Yes, that will help.

Bump10char

Actually, not really, although for some reason CCers seem to believe this. Maybe 6 APs total. A lot of Ivy feeders don’t have APs, and another big chunk of top college acceptees come from schools like the OP’s which don’t offer APs. Even at colleges with plenty of APs, 6 APs senior year is totally not necessary (although good if you can handle it!).

Pomona- You have an extremely good chance for this college, but your Writing SAT is a bit low, but I think other than that you’re solid.
Oberlin-Match/In. You are similar and better than their applicants. Your SAT scores are in their range and you look like you have a killer chance.
Carleton-Same as above
Grinnell-IN!!!

USC-Match/Low Reach, since you don’t live in CA your chances are lower than most people with you same stats who are applying, but you still have a great chance.
Stanford-Reach for everybody, but with you stats you’ve got a chance.!!

i’d LOVE a chance back hahah, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/867643-help-nervous-junior-please-will-def-chance-back.html</a></p>

if ya wannna

I’m glad to hear I have a chance at Pomona.
I was considering applying ED, but my mom convinced me not to.
I guess I sort of regret it. Won’t really know till April though.

yay Oberlin  I’m auditioning at the conservatory in two days…

okay sorry.

anyways, your stats are excellent, and it seems like you have great recs too, which is a big plus. I think you have great chances at all of the liberal arts colleges! hmm dunno about Stanford though…that one’s a reach for everyone.

good luck! you’ll be fine :)

[chance me back?](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/866589-chances-columbia-again.html)

You’re great for Carleton, Oberlin, and Grinnell, though Pomona is a crapshoot. It would certainly help if your SAT score was higher- I think their median is around the high 2200s, though I could be wrong. Ditto for Stanford.

Chances back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/861462-chance-me-dartmouth-brown-top-lacs.html</a></p>

Good grades, good extracurriculars, okay SATI…
I say high match for every school except Stanford. Just up your SATI a little bit more.

Chance back please
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/867114-chances-number-one-school-wustl-please.html</a></p>

Honestly, I’m not worried about the SAT.
I live in Ohio, and its really uncommon here except for kids who go to private schools.
Only three kids at my school have taken it that I know of, and the nearest test site is clear across town. For comparison, taking the ACT is mandatory and the other high school in our district is a test site. I only took the test once, and the score I recieved the first time roughly correlates to my first ACT score (31). I just simply didn’t have the time to take another test across town. I’m sort of running a gamble that admissions counselors will be able to extrapolate my SAT retest out of my second ACT score.
