Liberal Arts Colleges versus National Universities

“… no one wants to go to top liberal arts colleges”

???
The top LACs are not exactly hurting for applicants, from what I can see.
Plenty of people want to go to them.

There are generic differences between universities and LACs that people may variously prefer: eg. more course offerings vs. smaller classes. Relatively few LACs offer the more vocational majors such as business and engineering. The LAC will offer a smaller, hence more intimate community, the university may offer a bigger and more diverse playground, with more of, well everything, but with less intimacy.

These are differences, but individuals may reasonably prefer one setting over the other.

And then there are features of particular colleges that people may variously prefer or not.
For example, some people prefer to be in or near big cities, some don’t want the combination of a small school in a small town. But others don’t care much or prefer the smaller setting. Many of these factors are not confined solely to LACs or universities, there may be some examples of each in various environments.

So there are a number of differences people may evaluate, one way or another. But, at the end of the day, the acceptance rates at the top LACs are low, so your basic premise seems off, to me.

Depends on your personalities and other factors.

I’m deciding between UW, Bates and Wake Forest. I prefer smaller schools because I believe student teacher relationships are important.

As of comparing top LAC to Ivies, it would depends on which exact one. If I got Cornell and Amherst, I would go to Amherst. But If I got Brown, Harvard, Dartmouth, I would go to the ivies instead.

Afterall, what can you do with the recognitions? Well, many different things! But the quality of education would have to come before name. But if you can have both, then get both! But this is not always the case, such that I am facing the problem right now:

Thai people knows UW really well,
Most thai people have never heard of Bates and Wake Forest,
But I know that I would be better of acadamically with Wake and Bates,
So although I am not getting to go the well known place, and with my 6 friends, I would get to be in the place where I would be acadamically better of.

Its not fair to stereotype Asians because they are asian.

It is also not fair to excuse an Asian child’s conduct because they are Asian.

Not to mention that not all Asian cultures are high-strung.

Go-vibe made an arrogent, unsupported and unrevised comment. He is probably a ■■■■■. I’m turning down a free ride to UMD and admission to another high-ranking large privet university that is very well known to attend a small, rather unknown liberal arts college. My colleagues have turned down Dartmouth, Columbia and UMass. Ranking isn’t everything. In fact, I would argue its next to nothing.

Either way, excusing Go-vibe’s irrational comment because he claims to be Asian is somewhat insulting.
