My main reason for this thread is because I'm considering applying ED to Tufts and I want to see how my chances there stack up against other schools.

GPA UW: 3.68
GPA W: 4.54
Class Rank: Top 10% (might be top 5% as ranks haven't been released, but I am being conservative)
Course Difficulty: Took all honors/AP but I had open blocks after completing required electives

SAT Scores: 800 CR, 710 M, 800 W (1510/2310)
SAT II: World History 790, taking Biology E and US and expecting similar

AP Scores:
World History - 5
US History - 5 expected
Bio - 5 expected
I'm taking Calc, English, one of the Economics, and either Physics or Chem next year

EC's: I have a relatively small number (5 or so) but considerable involvement in all of them.

Misc: I have numerous teachers I could get excellent rec's from and I expect my essays to be a stronger point of application.

If I am to apply ED to Tufts, I want to make sure that 1) the slight improvement in my chances wouldn't be better used elsewhere if my chances there are too low and 2) that I don't have a high enough chance of getting into Tufts RD that I should use it for another low reach school. Tufts is my first choice barring that I don't get accepted into a school with much better acedemics.

List of schools I'm considering:

Tufts
Carleton
Macalester
Georgetown (how much of a reach is this?)
NYU
Colgate
Dickinson

Wow your thread looks a bit lonely. So here is my input!

Low UW GPA, but very high Weighted GPA
Very good SAT I score
You say you don’t have that many ECs but have significant involvement in them- make sure you highlight this on your application.
And with excellent recommendation letters, I think you will be a high match for Tufts and all the schools on your list (besides NYU since I just hear they are more of an “artsy” school so not sure if artistic talent is required or anything)

As for the weighed GPA, that is on a 5.0 scale and as I said, all of my core classes were weighed to some extent as all were honors/AP. I intend to discuss at least one of my EC’s in detail in my essays.

Out of all those schools, Tufts is certainly up there in terms of quality of academics. I had a similar GPA (3.7 unweighted, school doesn’t weigh) with a 1460 SAT I and I was accepted to Tufts EDII. I would say you are very competitive. Tufts is typically known for not emphasizing ED in their acceptances, so go for ED or RD, doesn’t make that big a diff.

You definitely have a decent shot at Tufts. Your GPA is a little on the low side, but I know people who have gotten in with lower ones. Besides, your SAT is stellar.

Apply ED to Tufts if it’s your first choice.

Even if they don’t put much focus on ED, I’ll still apply ED if I have a decent shot (which I seem to) because it’s my first choice anyway and it can’t hurt. Also, the reason my weighted GPA is so high but my unweighed GPA is low is because I included only core classes (eg. not gym, band, computer use, etc.) so it lowered my unweighted GPA but made it so all the courses were honors/AP, raising my weighted GPA. I understand that colleges prefer to look only at acedemic classes so I thought it would be more accurate to compute it that way for purposes of this thread.

Well, Claremont McKenna is on the opposite side of the country from where I live and I don’t have the means to do a lot of traveling so it’s not really an option. I live in upstate New York, hence my inclination to apply to Colgate. I appreciate the suggestion as I am looking for one or two more good schools to supplement my top 3 (Tufts, Carleton, Mac) but unfortunately I can’t travel too far to visite them.
