I had my heart pretty dead set on going to Texas Tech, however recently I have been thinking about my political views and I am somewhat concerned. I currently live in the midwest and am pretty liberal and I am well aware that Tech is a very conservative college. I am just concerned that I will feel uncomfortable and not be able to find other people with the same beliefs as me. I think it would be beneficial for me to be exposed to conservative views, however I still want the security of knowing there are people with the same views as me. Do you think that differing political views from the majority would ultimately have a negative effect on college? I would just like some kind of input please :-)) thank you!
Texas Tech draws students from all over, in part due to their best-in-the-Nation Scholarship for NMF’s. The surrounding area might be red, but the student body is probably not politically homogenous. My daughter is pretty liberal and looking at schools in Texas (Baylor, A&M, UT-A), and is not too worried about it.
Tech has a diverse student body so finding like minded people will not be a issue. Conservatives are the majority but t they do not dominate the campus. I don’t think you would have any issues finding your tribe at Tech.
Attending Tech is an opportunity to be exposed to alternative political perspectives, which is what college is supposed to be about. My son is conservative, and I expect his views to be challenged at college. As Plato said, “the unexamined life is not worth living.” Being surrounded by different perspectives is a good thing.
