I'm thinking of transferring...yet again...I was originally at Tulane, HATED IT, now I'm at Univ. Miami, and originally, I was alright, trying really hard to deny the fact that this was almost Tulane Part II and that the people were just unbearable here . BUt, in fact, it's come to the point in my career here where I realize...it is, inevitably, Tulane Part II.

And that the people are just snob whores here.

I'm thinking along the lines of somewhere in California (i think i qualify as a CA resident family's been living there a little bit) and a school that is LIBERAL and either really big or has a feel or a big school, and has way less superficial people than miami, and better academics.

Yeah! UC Berkeley looks like the most amazing school ever
But
I have to be a sophomore to transfer and right now i'm a "freshman" by miami standards although I may be a sophomore credit wise...I had 16 credits from Tulane, i'm in 14 now, so wouldn't that make me a sophomore at the end of the semester?

yes i agree with you! HOWEVER, that's like saying you'll find normal people at univ. miami. yes they exist, but it's unbelievably tough to weed through all the weirdos to get to them. So i don' tknow. at least a school with a much more down to earth population. it's not even the blonde hair. i've met a few "blondes" here who defy the stereotype surprisingly!

...blondes are no smarter/dumber than anyone else, but if you're talking about bleached blonde Miami party girls who are just there to drink....gotcha ;)

NYU also has a party scene, but there's lots of down to earth people here. It's very large, very liberal, strong in academics. If you want California, the UC's are obviously the way to go. Good luck!

I am really keen on Berkeley!! EXCEPT like all the public universities in Cali want you to have 60 credits by the end of your sophomore year...and i'm not even a sophomore yet (although technically i will be after this semester.)

Ideally, I'm looking to transfer out FOR the fall of '09 and not be held back...i trnasferred from tulane and got held back a year because i came to umiami for music and their curriculum is so rigid here and blah blah...so long story short, I want a cheap school, big, liberal, or a private school with cool people that gives good money and has good academics. And I'm getting stressed out. this is the friggin THIRD time i've had to do a college search!!!

so i take it that the stereotype of miami being a snobby rich kid school is more or less true? if so, maybe it's a good thing i didn't get accepted there. just out of curiosity, would you define the student population at tulane as being the same way, or was it just the culture of the school that you didn't like? anyway, i second the UC and Wisconsin & Michigan recommendations. I hear that NYU is liberal but very snobby.

NYU is not "very snobby", at least not the way most elite LAC's are. I mean, sure, you'll find snobs here, but overall the student population seems to be down to earth. It's very diverse, so you'll find all kinds of people here.

Since money is an issue, I advise you don't apply to NYU and look into the UC's.
