I don't want to stereotype Texas, but I'll be blunt--would a liberal atheist vegetarian gay man be accepted by most of the students at Rice?

Yessssssir.

That is, if you're a nice, likeable person.

yeah i think they accept everyone im sure..... and you'd fit in. if you have an open mind and your amiable i bet everyone would accept you

According to my kids, definitely.

Unless that person also happens to be an incredible jerk, absolutely.

As long as you are not self rightgeous about it, sounds like some of DD's friends.

I've been trying to give up meat for the past few years, but I can't quite resist whenever I'm eating out. Aside from that, I fit your definition exactly. And I've never felt as accepted as I was at Rice.

Rice is a pretty small community, so you may not be able to find an entire social circle of people who are also gay atheist vegetarians (some of my closest friends ended up being conservative Christians and Republicans), but what you will find is a community of incredibly open-minded and accepting people.

I don't know if Rice would be the best fit for you (since I know exactly 4 things about you) but I wouldn't let this concern hold you back. Visit Rice and see for yourself.

I just had me some chicken and beef.

There were two vegetarians in my O-Week group, and I know there are a few gays somewhere in here. No problems thus far. :P

I'm a liberal atheist lesbian (though not vegetarian) freshman, and I have not felt any negativity at all. In fact, a ton of people I've met here (so far, at least, I've only been here three weeks) identify rather publicly as Allies. However, while Rice is a very welcoming and accepting place, it seems as if the actual LGBT community is somewhat small, but there are more gay males than females.

As far as atheism (funny, some of us were actually discussing this last night), I have encountered more nonreligious people here than actively religious people. I know of at least 3 other atheists within the 5 dorm rooms nearest to mine, but it seems like the dominant religion here is apathy.

The vast majority of people here are liberal, or at least rather moderate and tolerant.

I turned down Columbia, NYC, liberal capital of the universe to come to Rice. We're pretty cool people :).

The vegetarian food at North Servery is ballin btw.

Liberal atheist vegetarian and a huuuuuge Texas fan here, btw. I wouldn't say there are more nonreligious people than actively religious people, though.

I know a few atheist that go to Rice.
