<p>I can't believe no one has mentioned state school UC Santa Cruz yet! In terms of activism, many people believe it has surpassed Berkeley (especially now that Berkeley has been inundated with Southern Californians).</p>
<p>No stadium/football team, minimal sports, banana slug mascot, situated in the middle of a redwood forest, had no formal grading system for 30 years... it's a hippie haven.</p>
<p>When I went there, there were usually labor strikes of some sort at least once a month.</p>
