Hello everyone applying for this program, we can use this forum to talk about it!
To start I have a question. Does this program highly favor people with pervious research experience?

Anyone?
@futureprof101 I would assume that previous research experience wouldn’t hurt, but this program is meant for rising juniors and seniors, so they can’t expect much prior work. I received an email asking me to set a date for the interview- did anyone else get their confirmation yet?
@amethyx that’s understandable. I’m a rising junior and I have previous research experience over the summer and school year so hopefully it will help because I know for a fact I will not do well in the interview. I also got the email, but I’m pretty sure everyone gets it as long as their application is complete.
who has already scheduled their interview? does anyone know how it will work? also, is it better to have an interview earlier rather than later?
Also, I heard that two rounds of the interviews are in groups, meaning with more than one student. That’s really strange… imo
Does anyone know anything about this or have thoughts on the matter?
@amethyx what day did you pick for your interview? I’m doing April 6th since I had prior commitments on the other days.
@futureprof101 I scheduled my interview for April 6th as well I’ll see you there I guess…
How do you know that the interview will be in a group? If it is, I’m going to be really nervous talking in front of other students… it would be pretty awkward if I mess up too.
Plus while everyone else is talking, I’ll probably be comparing myself to them.
Speaking of, @futureprof101 I hope I’m not in your group, you sound impressive with your previous research and you are a freaking sophomore like wow. I’m impressed you were able to do research right after your freshman year, how did you do it?
@jebaited haha funny screen name!
I know that the interviews are in groups because an alumni of the program from my school told me. Two rounds are in a group and another one is individual, though I am not sure of the order. It might have changed since, but I kind of doubt it.
As for my research, it might just be my saving grace. I applied to a research program last year on a whim and somehow got in… still wondering to this day how. It was good since it’s was merit-based and fully funded, so my parents didn’t have to pay anything. I’m pending publication for my research too!
idk if you can tell, but I’m really enthusiastic about my project, so if I’m asked about it during the interview, that would be perfect, but idk if they will
but I guess i’ll have to wait and see… Good Luck to everyone!!! XD
@futureprof101 My interviews on March 23rd, so that’s coming up pretty soon
Is this program meant for NY/NJ area students or anyone can apply. In the application there is a section talking about the NY/NJ counties - got the impression that most mentors are around that area or any mentors from other states?
I am fine to travel for workshops and final symposium but for regular meetings with mentor would prefer it to be nearer to where we are and wondering if LSC has any list of mentors in different areas. I could not find any such list on the website - let me know if there is any non NY/NJ residents who applied to this program.
The program I mostly for NJ students, but there are some NYC students that get in if there research interest lines up with the mentors. There are very few mentors from NY, and any mentors from that state is located in NYC.
Also, they have never posted who the mentors are, you just have to meet then if you are paired with them…
I really dont think there should be any non NJ/NYC students applying, there are other programs in other states for students to conduct research, probably easier to get into than LSC
Anyone having an interview this weekend?
Does anyone who applied in the past have any advice?
When are we supposed to hear back?
