I am high school student looking for colleges to apply to, and I am interested in business.
I think Liberty University would be a great fit for me, I really like the campus.
However, I am very concerned with the business school faculty at Liberty. It seems that most of their degrees are from universities such as Walden or Capella ?
Is this a cause of concern ? Will future employers look down on this ?
Wow! I looked at the link and couldn’t believe it. You were right (and add Liberty University for most of the other degrees). For me, I would run the other way. OTOH, once you have the degree, people don’t go back and see where your faculty came from.
Does this mean that only 27% of the 69% remaining after first year graduate in four years? Or 27% of the original class?
Do they place their graduates in jobs that are part of that community? Is it a reasonable choice for someone wanting to stay in that sphere?
It seems to me like a college that limits rather than expands later opportunities. However, that may not be a problem for those interested in what the school is offering.
Without starting a discussion on the merits of LibertyU one way or another. The sheer number of staff that are products of the school bothers me. Not because of the quality of the education they may have received, Rather it indicates to me that there will be little perspective outside of the school. This would apply to any school with that many staff from it’s own program.
While I wouldn’t send my kids there , my niece did graduate from Liberty and it has worked out really well for her. I think you have to be a certain kind of person to go there. But the truth is that unless you go to a top college its not going to matter much where you get your business degree. What’s going to matter is what you do with it.
I just thought it was a good school but I am shocked that they would hire professors with such dubious degrees I am concerned what it says about the academicsame of the school
It is a good school for only a few of the freshmen who start there, given the retention and graduation rates. Why take a chance when you have many other options to choose from that fit your academic and social needs? I wonder if the good impression comes from a school that tries hard to market itself? They show only the best to prospective students, online and on campus.
You can keep your personal religious preferences and lifestyle at most colleges but you can’t create a good faculty. Kudos to you for looking beyond that and examining the academics. There are plenty of other schools with better academic reputations that will fit you. You want to get the most from your time and money spent in college. Keep looking.
That goes over my head. Do others give advice that can help others besides the OP? Perhaps this thread will help legit HS students who have heard of this U.
If you want a strong Christian school, there are lots of them, and these three are superb:
Wheaton, IL
Calvin, MI
Hope, MI
If you want a conservative college with a legit business school/major and where many students are Christian, what about Washington&Lee, Wake Forest or Wofford?
I kinda of want to stay close to home since I am from Richmond, and I just really enjoyed the atmosphere when I visited the campus at Liberty. I have heard good things about Wake Forest and Washington& Lee, but are they Christian ?
I was also thinking of maybe doing economics as well and going to grad school for economics. However, they seem to have only one professor in economics
@barrons wow, it seems like you have a lot of knowledge of Liberty University and the surrounding lynchburg area. I hopefully you can give me some insights about the university. I know I like the school, campus and Christian atmosphere, I just worried that the academics issues highlighted about the faculty thing might be bad jobs or grad school admission ?
