This just posted on LU’s homepage. For an extreme political-religious indoctrination center they aren’t doing so bad

Two bachelor’s degree programs within the Liberty University School of Engineering & Computational Sciences (SECS) have been accredited by ABET, the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

The Computer Engineering program has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission and the Computer Science program has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission.

The school’s Electrical Engineering and Industrial & Systems Engineering programs were accredited by ABET last year.

“Dr. Gary Isaacs, assistant professor of biology in Liberty University’s Department of Biology & Chemistry was recently named a recipient of the 2013-14 Alzheimer’s and Related Diseases Research Award Fund (ARDRAF), receiving $40,000 to further his research. This brings Isaacs’ research total to $90,000 since coming to Liberty in 2009.”

This was posted on the LU Alum FB page. Its an article published today by the USA Today about LU.

The piece made a mistake on what level of sports LU plays at. LU already plays Division 1 sports in the Big South Conference. They are trying to go from D1 FCS to D1 FBS. Football is the only sport that has two levels of D1 the rest is all the same. Just wanted to point that out.

Beat me to it. Great pub. As soon as the can find a FBS conference they will move up. There appears to be some issues/discrimination with some schools allowing LU in.

If LU could avoid choking away tough games, they’d be able to go FBS for sure. Going toe to toe with Kent State, Wake Forest, ODU, and Coastal are all good for the resume. But they just can’t punch it in.

I agree. I watch all their games when I can and they start off so well. Then the 4th quarter hits and they choke. They just beat out Gardner-Webb but they do that every year so it’s not something I can brag about.

The Sunbelt has an opening and they want JMU and are willing to wait but JMU doesn’t want them. So if that falls threw MAYBE LU can get an invite. But I’m not holding my breath. One day LU will go FBS. In my opinion it will be within the next couple years maybe longer. But we shall see.

I like Coach Gill but his resume is not as glowing as some like to believe. Basically had one good year at UB and turned that into a job at big-time school KU where he failed and was gone in just two years. As I said, LU is a tough job in some ways so I’ll give him his 5 years to see how it works out. But I would not be shocked if it did not.

If they make it it would be cool to have something like the Christians cup! Which could be a rotating schedule of byu, liberty, and either Boston college or notre dame

Not a big fan of the Christian Cup ideal…LOL. Let’s leave that for the National Christian College Athletic Association. They need all the help they can get.

I am a lawyer in Texas, and I have interviewed and hired many candidates from religious schools (SMU, Baylor, similar). My company would never consider a candidate from Liberty. (Nor would my previous two law firms.). Its professional reputation is a joke. This is not religious discrimination and has nothing to do with Christianity. It is simply that Liberty is not a reputable school.

Before you just assume I am anti-Christian or a credentials snob, my BA is from a small Christian college in the south and my law degree is from a public state school.

In the business world, whether deserved or not, Liberty has a reputation for lacking intellectual curiosity and fostering right wing, anti-academic group think. So, before attending there, make sure you are okay with the name following you for your entire career.

One of my D’s best friends went there. Almost all of her friends went to the same tiny Christian school from Pre-k through 12th grade. I believe this young man had the highest SAT a the school; something like 2360. Anyway, he was supposed to graduate May 2012, but hadn’t satisfied some religious requirement, and he came back home.

Texas–there are plenty of Christian and conservative firms where an LU degree is a plus. each to their own. How exactly have people outside the area even formed such an opinion? From reading Salon? In the areas where LU is actually known and not just something people read about the rep is fine and getting better every year. Many of the teachers, nurses, business people and such within Va and NC come from LU. Grads of the aero school are in very high demand from Delta and other majors.

Barrons – liberty set out to build a reputation. It now has to live with it. I believe you that the college is working hard to change. But for those of us who don’t live and breathe LU, Liberty symbolizes intolerance, homophobia and extreme right ring ideology. That might be unfair to current students, but that is what the Liberty brand suggests, even to Christians.

Texasmom - we’re in PA - hardly a conservative state - and I just don’t see what you are talking about. I don’t doubt it exists in places where people are still quite prejudiced, but it certainly isn’t everywhere.

As mentioned before, I know several kids who go to Liberty from our ps. I can’t recall a single one having issues due to the school or where their degree came from. How many students do you know IRL who went there? Or are you just promoting a stereotype that you really know nothing about simply because it sounds right to you? If the latter, I know I’d certainly never want to do business with your law firm (any of them).

I live in Austin, Texas and have never ran into any issues with my LU masters. All I see is positive things. My neighbors kid (he is 7) even knew about LU when he came over to play with my son. He watches baseball and remembers them stomping Clemson in the tourney last year :P
