So I'm about 74% sure that I'm going to Bing - once I visit it I'll know for sure (hopefully!).
Right now I'm just wondering more about general life at Bing, so I have several questions.

-How large are the classes?
-How's the workload?
-How are the people? Friendly? Outgoing? Is it easy to make friends?
-Is the food decent? What meal plan would be best?
-Which dorms do freshmen normally get put into? Can you room with a friend?
-What's the town around the campus like? What kind of stores/restaurants are there?

I think that's about it! Thanks! :D

touching on a few of your questions –

1) class size varies A LOT. there is a lecture hall that holds about 500 students - I think that’s the largest classroom. Big intro level classes - often also having smaller discussion sections that meet with a TA. but you can also have a freshman writing class with under 20 students. size of classes vary a lot based both on subject and level of a class.

2) binghamton’s meal plans work differently than those at many other schools. the dining halls are all pay as you go – you pay for the food on your tray. the meal plan gives you a specific amount of money to spend. an amount is taken off the top for “overhead” – the same amount of overhead is charged on each meal plan – the price of the food is therefore very low since they’ve already collected their overhead costs. the plans differ only in terms of how much spending money you have. if you have left over money at the send of the semester, it carries over to the next semester if you are still on a meal plan. if you run out of money it is VERY easy to add money - dollar for dollar. so it really doesn’t matter too much – you can take the default plan first semester and then adjust second semester – you can always add more spending money if you need to. if you have a lot left over, go to a lower plan the next semester.

3) freshmen are housed in all of the dorms except the two apartment communities, susquehanna and hillside. rooms in every dorm are set aside for freshmen. some communities are more popular so more people request them so it can be harder to get into them. but there will be freshmen in all of the dorms.

4) you can choose your roommate – the request must be mutual. think carefully though about whether you really want to room with a friend – you never really know someone until you live with them.

5) the school is in vestal, which is a suburb of binghamton. the school is on vestal parkway which is your typical suburban main road – with tons of fast food places, chain restaurants, stores – walmart, target, barnes and noble, staples, radio shack, bed bath and beyond, movie theater – its all along vestal parkway. there’s also a typical suburban mall (the oakdale mall) not too far away in johnson city. campus and local buses are pretty easy for getting around the area.

Thanks, iamhere! Just another question: Is there a lot of school spirit at Bing?
