I am an upperclassman at Davidson who has read the aforementioned blog and I would hope that CC readers would be wary of the information posted on the site. The author admittedly is a freshman who has attended Davidson for all of 2 months. As a result, I have found a lot of her information to be inaccurate and/or based on sweeping generalizations and stereotypes. This is not how I would portray Davidson.
If you have any questions about Davidson, I encourage you to contact the admissions office who can either answer your questions or direct you to student ambassadors.

jurich I’m glad you came along. I welcome more perspectives about Davidson’s social and academic life.

Maybe my situations and things at Davidson will be different in the long run, but I have literally been telling you exactly what has gone on in my own life. Therefore, I don’t see my own life as inaccurate. However, an upperclass perspective is definitely useful to see how things pan out. The purpose of my blog is to tell you my perspective as a new freshman getting into the groove of things. I believe that everyone has a different experience, so this is just mine and doesn’t necessarily apply to 100% of people. You can take my opinions how you want to.

dancepsychlove, i am doing something wrong? i attempted to access your blog but it asked for some kind of password…

I’ve put the blog on hiatus for a short while. It will be up again soon, most likely in a week or two. In the meantime, you can still be PMing/posting questions if you have them :)

The blog will actually be taken down. I’m going to put up a last post.

The main reasons for this are preservation of my identity/personal security, as well as general annoyance with people telling me that the concrete events/observations of my life aren’t true. Take it or leave it: I’m a freshman at Davidson, I am living life here, I am taking classes, eating meals, sleeping, socializing. I realize that I haven’t yet evolved into the mature senior perspective of Davidson, but neither will any prospective students when they step onto the campus for the first time. This would have been my story of life at Davidson.

Peace, love, and good luck to everyone with applications to Davidson. It’s always a great day to be a Wildcat. I just wish you all could know what a Wildcat really goes through, but I guess that’s why the guidebooks are so censored.

Dancepsychlove:

I read your blog and really, really liked it because it gave me a good idea of what it’s like to be a first-year at a competitive LAC and I found your honesty and candor refreshing. It’s too bad you felt pressure to take it down.

@Dancepsychlove: Davidson senior here. When I used to contribute to this board in my first two years, people gave me some grief, too. My descriptions of the party scene were especially controversial…even though I think I did a fair job of presenting events as they happened, without sugar-coating, but without incriminating anyone either. In my opinion, if a prospective student is turned off by an honest report of student life from an ordinary student’s perspective, Davidson might not be for them…and that’s o.k.!

I maintain that there’s nothing wrong with sharing your personal experience at a school, though those in the P.R. department will always take issue with it. Do what you feel is right (and know that people will quit bugging you within 6 months of your last post), but remember that College Confidential is a very useful source of inside-information for lots of prospective students, and the first amendment stands. I’m sure you’ve given many prospective students a lot to think about and I’m sure they appreciate every bit of it. Good work and good luck.

Just a quick question, should I list poetry (which I read a lot of) in the list of books because they come in “book” form but are considered an anthology?

Is it even important if I list these?
