Davidson College - Early Decision '09

I'm applying! Anybody else?

Let's get a discussion going.

I am, if I my aid estimate shows the college as affordable for me.

for all ya ED'ers (if there are any other, besides reaceme, lol), what would you say caused davidson to stand out to you such that you want to apply ED?

also, raceme, im guessing you're a runner. I am too, haha that cake run sounds pretty sweet.

I am a runner. Everything about Davidson sounds amazing.

..I just hope I can get in..

im thinking maybe ED2...and honestly, as it gets colder where i live, im really dreaming of that warm sun and a lake campus..

I will definately apply ED1, and actually, I will be ready to submit my application in about two weeks!

What do you guys think you want to major in? any teams your lookin at? lol

Economics! with a minor in French.

TTwhite, have you submitted your application yet? Or are you applying EDII?

I am applying ED1 as well and I will be so nervous when december 15th rolls around.
I am thinking History major with a concentration in international studies.

race me - im not sure about ED I yet, but if i do apply ED, it will likely be ED I.

Anybody want to post their stats?

sure...
it seems like davidson has a good range of people stat-wise (something like 630-730 mid 50% on sat sections... so probably a handful of people with high 500's and some with 800's lol)

Should have some interesting essays.
and if it matters, I'm a first-gen college student.

whoa, you completely blow me out of the water. I just became much more worried.

I worried about a lot of this stuff too for all kinds of colleges and scholarships.. but you come to notice you really don't know - only applying or trying for it will determine.. if you worry and guess and end up concluding you won't get something and don't apply, you lose your chance! you miss every shot you don't take, they say. Seeing you like davidson so much, definitely apply. Just try not to let it be the end of everything if you don't get in. Have a few schools you might want to reach for, and a few that you are pretty sure you could get into, and apply to em.
well thats my two cents.. gotta go!

I'm just going to throw out my stats to see what you guys think. My grades are average but I think my EC's are particularly strong. But I'm also from North Carolina which may hurt my chances a bit.

I tried to be brief but that's about it. I spend a lot of time in all of my activities but I didn't want to but the hours involved and such. I agree with raceme, I hope my essays push me over the top. I am writing about my best friend, who's also diabetic! I am so excited about the possibility of going to Davidson, it's not even funny.

oh and to raceme.
I wish I was an athlete. It sounds like you have devoted a lot of your time to sports. Which is great from a personal standpoint and it looks great on resumes. And it's also a plus that Davidson has such a great sports program. And if it makes you feel any better a friend of mine who was barely in the top 10% of his high school class, was a big time cross country runner with only average grades, and slightly below average EC's and he was accepted and offered a scholarship to run. Maybe that's in your future?

Has any one else decided if they are applying Early Decision?

And does anyone know if you can default out of the binding contract if the money given doesn't add up to enough aid?

Raceme, I wouldn't be as concerned as you sounded! your stats and stuff are definitely not far below mine - there just about neck and neck. and your EC's, i would say, are better. i'm involved really widely, but i know schools like to see commitment to less, more so than some involvement in a lot (quality over quantity). conference winning teams, going to states, various awards... I can't claim most of that stuff.
all three of us look pretty even, i'd say. but you guys have some pretty crazy EC's!! $50,000 raised and states are hard to compete with!

about the ED contract. I've seen that there are always a few people who are accepted ED and don't enroll (like two out of 130). I've also heard from graduate law professors at Ithaca College that the ED contract is basically bull - it holds no weight and isn't legally anything.
There is a thing davidson will do to estimate need based aid. prob too late to do for you for EDI, but you could do it and apply EDII. they say not to apply ED if you are dependent on merit aid. i'd look in the fin aid forum about this question.
