I am considering UPenn, specifically Wharton undergrad. All the schools i'm looking at are going to offer great educations, and academically you cant really differentiate between prestigious colleges unless you go there and study yourself. My question is what is life like at UPenn in regards to...
1. Interpersonal life (friends, relationships, professor-student relationships)
2. Food (is it any good, describe)
3. Nightlife (do students go out clubbing/partying)
4. What does a typical student do for fun?
5. How is Philly?

professor-student relationships are supposed to be great. you can even take your professor out to lunch and the University will pay for it.

well, we’re changing meal providers, so we don’t know but the new provider is supposed to be really good. also, we have dining dollars, so you can eat at any restaurant on campus as part of your meal plan.

“social ivy”- enough said You can also look up Spring Fling

" "

The area of Penn is really safe. There’s tons of opportunities in Philly, and Penn makes an effort to acquaint you with the city during New Student Orientation.

Hope that helps!

I have friends. Most of my friends have friends, so in my experiences, most people have friends. In Wharton you are also forced to do a lot of group work, so that gets you working with and meeting new people. Professors are professors. Some are very nice and approachable. Others not so much. Just like other people. I’ve had some great relationships with my professors. Almost all are nice and willing to help you if you go to them and ask.

Dining hall food used to be awful, but I hear its good now with the new service. Food around campus is great. Food trucks and local restaurants are very good.

Some students go downtown for clubbing. It’s funner if you have an ID saying you’re 21. There is enough stuff to do on campus with frats and house parties that you don’t need to go downtown. There is a visible majority of students who go partying on weekends. ~1/3 of students here are Greek so there is a decent amount of frat stuff going on. If parties aren’t your thing there are plenty of students who don’t party or drink much and they do stuff for fun too.

Tough to say. Some go partying. Others watch movies and hang out. It depends what you are interested in. There is so much going on and so many different types of people that you’ll find people who enjoy what you like to do.

Philly is alright. It’s cheaper than NYC and DC, but not as clean. There are pretty good places to eat, bands play concerts here, Center City has a bunch to offer, and SEPTA makes everything easy to get to. It’s good enough that you have stuff to do, but not so amazing that it takes away from campus life.

i think that residential colleges ie. the quad are also a big part of the social life @ penn. u can sign up 4 residential programs 2

I was talking to someone at Penn who was telling me that at Wharton you have too much work to do. They average around 5 hours of sleep daily and its intense. Moreover, students either party or study, there is not much room for other stuff. Is that true? Could you guys dispel the myth (hopefully)

Quad and Hill are big freshman year. After that people start to disperse as at least 25% of males are in frat houses, people move off campus, and there is a less social feel in the highrises compared to the freshman dorms.

Residential programs also don’t really do anything.

Don’t get me wrong, Penn dorms are pretty fun and social. They just don’t have the same community feel of say Yale.

Wharton isn’t too much work a day unless you have 3 group projects due in the same week. Group projects can be a ***** IMO. One of my friends is done with the Wharton core and probably averaged over 8 hours of sleep a night. Just don’t take Management 100, OPIM 101, and Marketing 101 in the same semester.

There are people here who only study and party. However, I know plenty of people who do other stuff and manage to have fun without going clubbing or to house/frat parties.
