I visited Tufts over the summer and i wasn't too excited by the area around the campus. It just seemed to be really dead and there was absolutely no activity in the surrounding area. How is it when school is in session? I guess i was just wondering how it is to live at Tufts?

Very different. I would never describe the area around campus as "dead," with Boston Avenue on one side of campus and College Ave/Davis Square on the other. Every weekend Davis Square seems packed to me, and there's so much to do. What I like about Tufts is that it's not in the middle of the city, but it's not quite the suburban area most people describe it as. There are a bunch of squares in the area with great restaurants and other cool things, and if you're completely bored by Somerville/Medford, you could always just hop on the T and head into Boston. Or just go to Porter Square, or Cambridge.
Closer to campus, on the weekends there are almost always things to do on campus, and you can find a party on campus or off, if that's what you're into. Yeah, Tufts is going to be pretty dead over the summer, that's how colleges work, but during the year it's a really fun place to be, in my humble opinion.

cool. thanx
thats what i was hoping because i really liked tufts.
glad to hear that was just the summer that seemed like that

No campus is as vibrant as it normally is over the summer. Just fyi. ;)

Incidentally, I first visited Tufts during the summer and was totally unimpressed b/c it was completely dead. I wasn't even sure what parts were campus and which weren't. We like saw the president's lawn and frat row and judged the campus based on that. It was a totally incomplete picture. During the year it's bustling, full of people, and as I've said constantly on these forums, Boston/Cambridge is so accessible that it feels like an extension of campus.

The Tufts campus is definitely dead during the summer in spite of the fact
that they actually have summer school. Did you visit Davis Square? It's a ten minute walk from campus and there is a lot going on there. There are excellent restaurants, bars with music, a movie theater that also has concerts, bowling, what more could you ask? Also, you can take the subway
to Cambridge and Boston from there. There is more than enough to do.

the one time I was on campus over the summer, it was almost completely dead. Nobody was there, few students, staff, or professors were around, and all you could hear was the wind blowing through the trees. Suffice to say, Tufts during the Academic year is NOTHING like that at all...well except on Sunday morning maybe ;-)

Colleges in the summer are nothing like they are when they're fully in session. Don't judge it because of its summer appearance.
