Life at UCSB?

I'm going to be a pre med student, possibly majoring in biology at UCSB and I was wondering what is life like at UCSB? Are people nice? What were your experiences like here at UCSB? (: Thank you!

Help me Please?

The best, I love it. I’ve met the best people here and done things I’d never do back at home. I just bought a freakn 13 foot kayak sitting in my living room. I didn’t enjoy ucsb as much my first year, but everything has changed since then on. Now I don’t even want to go home for breaks. Just be prepared to try new things and meet new people. Join a frat, sorority, club, or whatever. Just do something, anything.

Does anyone know what life is like at UCSB is in particular for an Asian? Is UCSB diverse or is it racially segregated (Not to the point of hate crimes, but just in terms of cliques)?

Isn’t UCSB pretty diverse? I think there is at least 16% Asians, based on my research.

Nowadays, the Asian population there raised up to around 30-40.

you’re a bio major?
forget about having a life at all
at UCSB or anywhere
lol

I’ve heard that UCSB is a big party school. Are there people who are less inclined on partying there?

@appleabananas that’s BS I know plenty of bio majors and engineers there that have a life. They don’t party as much as everyone else, but they definitely have free time.

@googlyeyes There is a perception as UCSB being a party school. However, if they’re such a party school, how are their academics legitimately competitive with those of UCD, UCI, and even UCSD?
Every school has a party scene - UCSB’s is only more prominent because of the location.
For every five ignorant posts about UCSB being a party school, I always see one post from a UCSB STUDENT who always says, “Yes, there is a party scene, but the party scene isn’t shoved down your throats. There are places at UCSB where you don’t even notice the parties.”

Naturally, I believe the student more than the people who hear rumors.

There’s always going to be people who are less inclined to party - I’m probably going to be one of them. So don’t trip.

The term “party school” never made sense to me. Every college has parties. Plenty of people at UCLA party, plenty of people from UCI party, plenty of people from UCSD party, etc, that’s just college. As what styxxx says, UCSB just gets the reputation because of the location. The parties are just easier to find here; they all happen in a square mile zone, called IV. Parties at other schools are scattered around town. It’s funny actually, every time I meet up with my old high school friends who goto other UCs, they always talk about the parties at their university. College is what YOU make of it. For the most part, the people who do party here do it in moderation. Most of my friends usually go like twice a month (for freshman it’s usually a lot more, until they get older lol). I myself go once a month, reason being because I honestly don’t have the time for it, along with many other people.

Other than that, UCSB is awesome. I love it mainly because everyone here is so nice, and willing to help one another. It’s a very laid back campus, rather than the rushed fast paced city feel. UCSB is very diverse. The asian population is definitely growing, I can easily tell by the freshman class lol. So far I meet all sorts of people. Most of my friends are a mix of asian, mexican, indian, and white.

And about the bio major/no life deal, it is a bit exaggerated but there is definitely some truth to it lol. Ochem will definitely suck the life out of you… trust me :P

IMO, my best description of UCSB: laid back.

(Posting from the art lecture right now lawd.)
