Life at UCSD

So I got accepted as a biochem and cellular biology major at UCSD. I was wondering if I could somehow transfer to the bioengineering major although I know its impacted. Also I wanted to know if the social life at UCSD (such as parties and whatnot) is truly dead as people have reiterated to me.

See this thread re social life: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-san-diego/1626812-can-we-hear-from-some-current-ucsd-students.html#latest

If you truly want to switch majors, just speak with your counselor on how best to achieve that. If you are coming in as a freshman it’s pretty normal to want a change. As for the social life, I never had a problem. There were plenty of parties at I-house and The Village, but the ones off campus were a bit more fun. I took party buses to the Gaslamp and PB. A few weekends were spent in Vegas. I wasn’t part of any Greek organization, but I was still invited to their parties (tho they weren’t my favorite). Granted, if you aren’t 21 it will be a little harder to party obviously, but there are a million other things going on. For the most part, the students who expected the social life to fall in their lap had a tough time. Unsurprisingly, socializing goes both ways.
