if whitman is a top lac then why is it so dead here

The students who are already at Whitman are too busy to read and post. The ones who are applying are not the conventional CC multi-posters. Supporters may actually hope to keep it a "hidden gem". I think Whitman qualifies for this cohort of LACs based on its program but it tends to draw a self-selected set of candidates who really want to be in that kind of community in that location. But it is a good question to ask..

i was wondering the same thing...i posted a while ago about where whitties go after college and no one responded. do they just stay in walla walla and drink wine or what?

There are a couple of ways to research it through the college website, either on the prospective student section or by going to specific departments and doing a search. Your regional adcom can also probably give you some stats by major. My impression is many go on to grad school/professional schools, also a high proportion of Peace Corps and teaching.

I am a whittie. Ditto to this post. Ok...back to three 10 page papers due this week ;)

Like at any other college, you will see people taking different paths. Wine drinking is popular; Helen Thomas recently visited campus and wine-tasting was the first thing she wanted to do...

Motivated Whitties do well after Whitman. But, again, it depends on what your definition of "doing well" entails. Whitties have been known for going to top law and medical schools, top graduate schools, etc. Heck, some have been known for making it to top Investment Banks, while others decide to enjoy life and drink wine in Walla Walla...

I posted here once when I was a prospective student. Well, I'm a senior at Whitman, graduating in two months now, and I can confidently say that it is ridiculous to judge a college based on how many students read about it on ONE website. We have a livejournal community www.livejournal.com/users/whitties with almost 200 active members, students, alums and prospective students. We have a student-run website community at www.whitties.net that has tons of professor reviews and information written by students. Not to mention Whitman's official website at www.whitman edu which has several students eveyr year post diaries of their experiences at our school: http://www.whitman.edu/admission/studentjournals/ Read those if you want to know what it's really like here. The school's website even has an "ask a student" feature, so ask your questions to us directly if you really want to know: http://www.whitman.edu/admission/askastudent/

I only came across this post because I was bored this morning and googled Whitman to see what I would find. Whitman is a great school, check out some of the truly helpful sources I've posted here if you actually want to know what's up.

Some students do stay in Walla Walla after graduation, most don't. I read on Whitman's website today that over 50% of us go on to graduate school within 5 years of graduation. I'm graduating this May, and personally I'm going to be joining the workforce full time for a couple of years, and then heading off to law school. Previous alumni of Whitman have become famous actors, Supreme Court justices, and the like. One of the CEOs of GE went here. So did a director of the Mayo Clinic. And Adam West, formerly TV's Batman. All of this came from Wikipedia, btw: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitman_College

Easily accessed via google. One of the things you're going to have to learn to succeed at Whitman is research skills, I suggest you start on that now.
