Life/job opportunities after Tulane

Apologies if this sounds like shameless mommy bragging, as that is not the intent (just a side benefit, perhaps :) ) . Wanted those of you in the applications stage and also parents of, and current students, that there is life, and more importantly, there are employment opportunities, after Tulane! DS, a senior, has attended 1, maybe 2 job fairs. He has subsequently had 3 interviews and has been told that all 3 are moving him forward to the next stage. He now has 2 on-site interviews at 2 of the corporate offices set up for next week. Hasn't heard about scheduling the third one yet. I think that at least one of the job fairs was a Tulane event (I am awaiting clarification from DS). So rest assured-- a Tulane degree can/will lead to employment, even in this tough economy!!

No apologies needed, I really like seeing such information. Congratulations to him.

If you don’t mind providing more detail, what did your son major in and what field is he interviewing in?

He is a Chemical Engineering major (psych minor). One job is with a Chemical Engineering firm, the other with a consulting company. He hears they pay well, but won’t know until after the interviews, assuming he makes it to the offer stage.
Thanks!

Congratulations. Thank you for sharing this valuable information. By the way, is he a graduate student or an undergraduate?

He is an undergrad-- Class of 2012.

It’s even better as an undergraduate. He really achieve a lot. Congratulations again. Thanks.

Thanks, haha.

What’s even cooler, given the scholarships he had , he will probably earn in one year what we paid in expenses for his 4 years at Tulane! Now that is a great return on investment! Thanks to the generosity of Tulane!

Hi, jym,

Congratulations for the scholarships too. That’s means he will be debt free after college and find a job right after graduate. What’s a wise choice to attend Tulane!!!

We all appreciate the scholarship from Tulane, no matter $5,000, $25,000 or, DHS (~$40,000), even John Hainkel Louisiana Scholars Award (~$55,000). This really helps for the family and students. It will be paid back later from the Alumi.

Happy time for you and your children.

Well little problem-- all 3 interviews are now wanting to schedule for the same day in different cities. They will have to work it out…

Job offer came in today  Nice to know in November that he will be employed in June. Kinda like Early decision :D

Thanks for sharing this information! Really important to know they are preparing for the rest of their lives. Wondering what areas of the country were available? NYC, East Coast, Atlanta, Texas, California for job opportunities?

Not sure I know the answer to that one, 2010freshman. The companies that offered interviews have multiple offices. He was supposed to interview in Atlanta for one company, but it conflicted with another he had already scheduled in Baton Rouge. He is scheduled to interview in Houston in December but will probably cancel that one.

He just got home and is talking to family here for the holiday. I’ll see what I can find out - if he knows what opportunites are available to friends outside his major.

Quick follow-up. DS said that most of the recruiting is for regional companies, unless you want to work for the FBI or CIA  That said, the company he will be working for asked them to rank 5 locations they were interested in, as they have offices around the country. His first choice office had no current openings. He listed the NOLA office as second or third, and the NOLA office wanted him, so offered him a position.

jym. thanks for sharing. This is really an early Christmas gift. Congratualations again. His education at Tulane will empower him to success in the future.

Congrats to your son! This is great news :)

Thanks, everyone. Soon it will be your turn!!

I have champagne ready to serve for Thanksgiving!

Jym–Wish I had a “like” button. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks! You too!

He signed the acceptance letter over Thanksgiving. Off the family payroll in June :)
