Life Sciences at UofT

Hi all! I need some urgent help, please. I got accepted into VicOne programme of Molecular Genetics and Micro. I seriously know nothing about VicOne.. I just applied! lol! I'm choosing between McGill and UofT. i'm international. I have a couple of questions: How big are the classes?? Is there enough room for interaction? And what IS VicOne about?! Also... honestly, which is better.. UofT or McGill?

You will find both schools comparable in class sizes in the first year. Academically in Canada U of T has a better reputation. internationally perhaps McGill more. Anything else really depends on what you are planning to take from the schools. One of the biggest factors i hear from students choosing or encouraging others to choose McGill is it’s in Montreal. French aside Montreal has nothing on Toronto-- by any means. Toronto is classified as the most diverse city in the world by the UN. The second factor students say McGill is because the legal drinking age is 18. Much to my chagrin this seems to be an asset. But one should not be choosing a college based on the ability or lack there of to drink. As an international student and not knowing much about you, I think you probably find Toronto a more welcoming city than Montreal. Consider visiting both schools if you can.

I’ll say this right now since I’m in my 3rd yr at UofT lifesci. UofT runs a very strict grade deflation policy in comparison to schools like McGill. No offense to McGill students but high grades are harder to come by at UofT. I have a few friends in McGill who are doing very well and I know someone who transferred to UofT and her marks dropped–substantially.
