Okay so this is a huge predicament and idk which one to choose. I’m from the US so in terms of distance and fees both are pretty similar. I’m going to be pursuing the life sciences and the things I’m looking for are a) a diverse student body b) a friendly environment for south Asians c) a place where I could be in a serious relationship ( so not too much of a hookup culture but not too lonely and antisocial either)…I have no clue which one to pick…I feel like both cities and schools will give me so many opportunities. Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with a similar dilemma? I know that a lot of people have to pick between these two amazing schools, so any advice from someone who’s been there before? Thanks!
I chose McGill without looking back because
- I don’t like Toronto (just another North American city)
- Montreal is such a culturally interesting city
- Living expenses are significantly cheaper in Montreal. As in, significantly.
- Montreal people are super friendly
But take my words with a grain of salt, I just don’t like the feel of U of T (my dad worked there for a few years and perhaps I was too young to appreciate it back then). The only part I regret is turning down Trinity for McGill’s residences; not that they’re bad, I just had the luck of the draw and was randomly place in the worst.
Important factor: At U of T your major depends on your first year grades; at McGill if you get into life sciences you choose whatever you want.
In favour of U of T: At McGill we often complain how filthy rich U of T is, but I guess that’s just the nature of universities: the one you go to is always the worst in some way…
Thanks this was really helpful!
